About Browser Settings

The website, aside from requiring the Adobe Flash browser plug-in, also requires your browser to have JavaScript and Session Cookies enabled.

You may ask: “This is complicated, why do I have to deal with this?” In a perfect world you wouldn’t have to. In fact, your web browser has the required settings enabled by default as provided by Microsoft, Firefox, or Apple as the case may be.

If you are having trouble using the site and have to manually enable these settings, it means that either you or your IT department has changed your default browser settings such that several website features are disabled. This can help protect you from shady websites that you may visit, but also requires you to specify who your trusted websites are before you can use advanced features on those sites.

Will adding to my “Trusted Sites” ensure I have the right settings?

Yes, this usually works, but not always. For example, your IT department may have disabled Session Cookies and JavaScript even for your “Trusted Sites”! In that case you will have to edit the settings for “Trusted Sites” to enable the required features.

Session Cookies:

Why do I need this enabled? If Session Cookies are disabled, the server will not remember who you are as you move from page to page within the site. The server is responsible for giving you access to the right courses and tracking your progress through the course. If Session Cookies are disabled, you will immediately get a “Session Expired” error after logging in and will not be able to use the system.

The website uses JavaScript for many features such as drop-down menus, ‘help text’ on forms, and also to launch the course player. If JavaScript is disabled, you will find that several key features on the website do not work. Please keep in mind that upgrading your browser or installing new security software or security patches may affect your JavaScript settings.
